Woodland in Zurich, in the colors of “Top Gun”

James Bond engulfed body and goods in a calamitous finale, here is finally a hero again. A real. AND its shockproof, anti-pressurization and probably also anti-spy chronograph. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, his leather jacket thicker than that of an old buffalo, his flying or rolling cars, his band of hotheads. And the torrid decor of the American West…

Q, Mr Gadgets from 007, not being available, the Schaffhausen watch brand IWC was responsible for equipping Tom Cruise. No question of letting it fly over the Mojave Desert and its perils without first equipping it with a supersonic beautiful chronograph, equipped with all the essential trinkets.

“Total” event

IWC therefore unveils these days its new collection of emblematic pilot’s watches in Zurich. And the Silo, in the frame artsy of the former Löwenbräu brewery, has been completely redesigned to accommodate a thematic pop-up dedicated to the theme of Top Gun. The event is intended to be total, it will be musical in particular, the score having been entrusted to another Hollywood star accustomed to blockbusters, the Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Baptized Woodland, this pop-up was entrusted – for its gastronomic part – to one of our most creative and original chefs, Nenad Mlinarevic. “Woodland will appeal to all the senses and it’s a challenge that I loved taking up,” the Zurich chef told the magazine. Falstaff. Impossible mission? Not for this 30-year-old with velvet eyes and a tattooed body, capable of giving up all non-local ingredients (including cocoa and spices, at the time of the famous Park Hotel in Vitznau) to reinvent a virtuoso score…

top secret, too

Difficult to know more – Top Gun is never far from top secret – but we still whisper that color is the first source of inspiration for this seasonal menu: the chronographs are monochrome and the plates will be too. Or rather monochromes inspired by the places dear to Pete “Maverick” Mitchell: the ochres of the Mojaves, the crystalline purity of Lake Tahoe or the intense green of the forests of North America.

And the chef, who excels at playing on textures, at marrying distant references and local ingredients, will certainly be able to intrigue and awaken all the senses… For the record, Nenad Mlinarevic is also at the origin of two of the most inspired tables from Zürich: Bauernschänke and New Tavern.
